This is so-o-o super exciting! Although I COULD peel carrots forever, mind you, perhaps not on a boat! Haha. Your biking trip sounds seriously enviable / would love a before and after of your calves? Are you going to film anything, perhaps for a YouTube video? Would definitely watch that too. Was also lovely learning more about your personal life, a partner or eight years, how gorgeous! (Unless i misunderstood something.) Looking forwards to heading backwards in the All is Rosie archives to get myself more up to date with your writing and story telling. Speak soon. Ally x
So excited to see how your trip goes! My suggestions after a few bikepacking trips are 1) frontload the day: makes the afternoons feel much more manageable if you only have 1 or 2 more hours cycling left, but this did make me miss out on taking in earlier views so its a balance! 2) it's a marathon not a sprint, try not to worry about times and speed, cycling across a country is an amazing feat no matter how slow you go, pace yourself. 3) pack light, seriously- stuff gets heavy and you'll definitely notice it on any hint of incline, clothes might not dry if you wash them too, so sometimes its a choice of dry and sweaty or clean and damp! But still dont pack too much and accept the gross- only one "civilian" outfit is needed 4) check in with accommodation about a safe place to put your bike, I mean maybe france is less dodgy than the uk in terms of bike crime especially in villages, but you don't want to lose your means of transport!
You've probs heard all this already, but just my two cents - its going to be a challenge and sometimes you might question why the hell you're doing this, but the highs will easily trump that and I know you're going to have an amazing experience, bonne chance ma chérie! 💛
Thank you Sahra! These are nuggets of sheer GOLD, true words of wisdom. I'm taking everything on board and mentally shaving down my packing list as I type! Two weeks to go, and I'll be a real life bike-packer like you xx
Congratulations! This sounds like a lovely way to celebrate the end of your yachting journey. Can't wait to read along.
